We were back in the bustling streets of Karama district in Dubai within a span of few days. This time to visit the newly opened restaurant Saffron Diaries, a multi-cuisine restaurant.
Saffron Diaries is a mid-sized restaurant with modern decor. The walls are decked out in green and gold wallpaper. The main highlight of the restaurant is the huge chandelier in the center.
Unlike the other restaurants in the vicinity, Saffron Diaries is spacious and a good place to share a meal with family and friends.
The menu is elaborate and a bit confusing with too many dishes. It features South and North Indian cuisines with few other cuisines. Meat and seafood eaters have more options than vegetarians. Being vegetarians, we tried only the veg food.
We started off with a glass of fresh Grape Juice. They offered us an amuse bouche and it was Caramelized Pineapple in a deeply flavored sauce.
As our starter we had the spicy and richly flavored Urulai Cashew Nut Pepper Fry/ stir fried baby potatoes and pan seared Mushroom Galouti which had a melt in mouth quality.
There were too many choices for main course, but we decided to order something simple and comforting. The tasty Peshawari Chole with Puri was cooked to perfection. The Kerala classic Puttu & Kadala Curry was bursting with delicious taste and authentic flavor. It was our favorite dish at Saffron Diaries.
Dessert was an indulgent affair as we tried three of their sweet treats- Pal Payasam, Strawberry Phirni and Garlic Kheer. Except strawberry phirni, we liked the other two desserts. The phirni was not thick and the taste was not on point. Their signature garlic kheer is a must-try.
Overall, we enjoyed our lunch at Saffron Diaries. Good food, nice presentation, helpful service and pocket friendly prices. The menu should be made shorter and a bit more clear.
