At the moment Greek food is trending in Dubai and Greek restaurants are springing up in all corners of Dubai. The latest Greek restaurant to open is Taverna Greek Kitchen in Souk Madinat Jumeirah. We were invited for the grand launch and dinner last week.
Taverna is a homegrown concept situated in the beautiful and Arabesque Souk Madinat Jumeirah. The gorgeous interiors of Taverna will transport you to Greece. The restaurant is cosy, chic and charming. It has a separate bar area, fresh fish counter and an al-fresco terrace with a spectacular view.
As we visited the venue on the launch, it was buzzing with people. After being seated, we were offered the special set menu for the launch night. As a vegetarian, I’m happy to note that they have good vegetarian options.
We started with a glass of Wine and then moved on to the amazing and refreshing Greek Beer–Mythos. They’ve an impressive beverage list and you can pick a drink of your choice.
The first dishes to arrive were the cold plates and we were served a selection of Greek dips like Tzatziki, Melitzanosalata, Tirokafteri and Beetroot Salad along with Pita Bread. All the four cold plates that we tried were incredibly tasty, fresh and packed with authentic flavor. Even the simple pita bread was so good that we called for a second round.
Next we were served the richly flavored Santorinia Salad and it was delicious.
As both the appetizers in the set menu had seafood, they offered us Spinach Pie Salad instead. It was a nourishing dish with a combination of baby spinach, spring onion, dill leaves, Greek feta, toasted sesame seeds in filo pastry.
Gemista, the traditional Greek stuffed peppers, zucchini and tomato with rice and herbs made for a satisfying main course meal. It was served with roasted potatoes. A great choice for both vegans and vegetarians.
We ended our dinner with two of their divine tasting desserts- Orange Pie and Greek yogurt Pavlova.
What a fab evening it was! Loved the food, the drinks, the atmosphere, the service and the hospitality. We can’t wait to visit them again.
