Dubai has few amazing Japanese restaurants and TOMO is one of them. Since the time it opened, I have always been planning to visit the restaurant and finally last week I visited them for dinner. And I must say their food and ambience is outstanding.
Located on the 17th Floor of Raffles Dubai, TOMO is an authentic Japanese restaurant. You can expect a little slice of Japan on your plate. Their team of Japanese chefs ensure that there is nothing but the best in all their dishes.
Concept of TOMO according to their team:
The word “TOMO” is literally translated from Japanese to mean ‘a long time friend’. Our hope is that TOMO is a place where good friends will often meet to share memorable occasions, and that our home will in time, feel like your home. Our aim is to serve the best Japanese cuisine and provide our guests with an unforgettable experience that will bring a real taste of Japan to the UAE.
TOMO is a spacious restaurant with Japanese-inspired interiors. It has simple, elegant and minimalistic decor and offers various kinds of seating arrangements. The outdoor seating area offers a spectacular view of Dubai’s skyline.
The only negative experience we had was to get our table. Though we had booked our table in advance and were on time, they couldn’t find our name in the booking list. They took almost 15-20 minutes to get our table which was frustrating. Thankfully the good food and flawless service made up for it.
We shared a jar of their House Sake. As the weather was cool, we went for the warm sake which was good for the chill winter evening.
Their menu offers a wonderful selection of Japanese dishes, though the vegetarian options are limited, the choices offered are really good. Being vegetarians, we had veggie options naturally.
Starters
Hiyayakko or chilled tofu with spring onions, ginger and seasoned with little bit of soy sauce was refreshing and light.
The Vegetable Tempura that was made with assortment of mixed veggies was crispy and a great Japanese treat to nibble on with our warm sake.
Next we ordered the Vegetable Makimono Set that had avocado roll, cucumber roll and dried gourd strips roll. All the rolls were oozing with freshness and tasted absolutely delightful.
Mains
Yasai Itame or stir fried veggies was our side dish. It was a simple dish and you cannot go wrong with it.
Udon Noodles with veggies was wholesome, flavorful and delicious. The portion size was perfect too.
Desserts
The best part of our dinner was the dessert. We had a dessert platter that consisted of their signature desserts like Matcha Roll Cake, Sesame Ice Cream, Azuki Beans and Fresh Fruits. A definite must-try is their sweet and nutty flavored sesame ice cream. Even their matcha roll cake was top notch.
We ended our dinner with a pot of soothing and aromatic Japanese Green Tea.
Finally….
Overall, we had a great experience. The food, the drinks, the atmosphere and the service was good.
