Big Little Steps by Mathilde Loujayne

Big Little Steps

Reading and writing book reviews is my passion and I only review the books on my blog which I feel like reviewing. I recently received this book Big Little Steps and I honestly had not heard about the book or its author Mathilde Loujayne. Big Little Steps seemed very different from what I generally read, so I thought I’ll give it a try.

Big Little Steps is a woman’s guide to finding a balanced lifestyle and a glowing heart in Islam. This book is insightful and informative especially for new Muslims and anyone interested in Islam.

Excerpt from the book:

What are Muslim women’s rights?

What do modesty, humbleness and fashion have in common?

What is halal food?

This book is designed to empower women with Islamic values. You are given the tools to become the best version of yourself, as you enter a universal family beyond borders, called the Ummah.

This is French-born, Oman-raised Dubai author Loujayne’s first book. She converted to Islam in 2002. This book is about her spiritual journey. Big Little Steps is a women centric guide that addresses women’s common concerns through her own experiences and gives us the tool to become the best version of ourselves as we enter a universal family beyond borders called the Ummah.

As a non Muslim, I got to learn so much about the Islamic faith that teaches that there is only one god and Mohammad is the messenger of god. Having lived in UAE for 15 years I’ve always been curious about Islam as a religion and this book answered many of my queries like the importance of Ramadan, five pillars of Islam, Sharia law, Halal food etc.

Big Little Steps by Mathilde Loujayne is a good read, full of practical advice and profound thoughts. A must-read for both Muslims and non Muslims.

Some of the quotes that I liked from the book:

“Take one step towards me, I will take ten steps towards you. Walk towards me, I will run towards you.” – Hadith Qudsi

“Kindness is a mark of faith, and whoever has no kindness has no faith.” – Prophet Mohammad

“The wound is the place where the light enters you.” – Rumi

“Do not let the injustice of others lead you into injustice.” – The Table Spread, Surah Al-Ma’idah(5:8)

“Whoever kills a person, it is as though he has killed all mankind. And whoever saves a life, it is as though he had saved all mankind.” – The Table Spread, Surah Al-Ma’idah(5:32)
