When it comes to Indian restaurants, we are spoilt for choice in Dubai. There are every kind of restaurants that suits all budgets from pocket friendly restaurants to fine dining venues. Zafran Indian Bistro comes in the mid-range category and its a perfect place for those who love Indian food.
This contemporary and casual Indian restaurant offers authentic Indian food with a modern touch. Recently Zafran Indian Bistro launched a new menu. You can expect all the classic dishes as well as the new addition of dishes.
The menu is conceptualized by Chef Gaurav Singh. This what the chef has to say about the new menu:
I am always looking for inspiration from my guests and my surroundings to ensure that the food we serve at Zafran is constantly evolving. This menu is inspired by my travels in India and the discerning palate of our ardent fans who asked us to bring back dishes that they enjoyed from the limited menus we have served in the past year.
Having already visited their Mirdif City Centre branch where I had tried all their signature dishes, I was looking forward to try their new menu at their Dubai Marina Mall branch.
The Zafran Indian Bistro in the Marina Mall has been recently refurbished and looks amazing. The restaurant has an Indian inspired modern decor that looks elegant, vibrant and trendy.
The restaurant has an indoor and outdoor seating area with the beautiful Marina view. Last Thursday when we visited them the restaurant was packed and we managed to get our table in 5 minutes.
The front cover of the menu features a collage of art and culture of India, a perfect illustration of the culinary journey that we were about to embark on.
We were served a complimentary platter of Poppadam and Condiments in the beginning. They’ve also introduced new mocktails in their menu and we ordered Ginger Limeade and Apple Cinnamon Twist that were presented in a mason jar.
Being vegetarians, we order only the veg dishes. Whether you are a vegetarian or a non vegetarian, you’ll have plenty of options at Zafran.
We ditched the soups and salads and directly ordered appetizers. The crispy Onion Pakora is tasty and addictive. Next we tried the flavorful and moreish Corn and Spinach Kebab, Paneer Tikka and Tandoori Subz. Though we loved all their kebabs, their Corn and Spinach Kebab really stood out. Its a must-try if you visit Zafran.
For main course, we had 4 of their new veg curries- The rich and heavy Aloo Bhukara Kofta, simple and tasty Home-Style Bhindi Masala, tangy and flavorful Kadai Paneer and the utterly delicious Mirch Baigan Ka Salan that is cooked in a peanut, sesame, coconut and tamarind gravy with a hint of jaggery.
All the curries we tried had distinct flavor and taste. Mirch Baigan Ka Salan is not to be missed. To go with our curries we ordered Roti and Lachha Paratha that were freshly baked.
We ended our dinner on a sweet note. Their Dessert Platter is good for sharing between 2 people and it consisted of Flourless Chocolate Cake, Gajar Halwa, Rasmalai, Phirni and Fresh Fruits.
All the desserts were deliciously different. We especially liked the Phirni which is an Indian rice pudding flavored with saffron and pistachio.
Zafran’s new menu offers good options and we loved everything that we tried. The food, the presentation, the service and the atmosphere is fantastic. If you like Indian cuisine then Zafran is a place worth visiting.
