The Yellow Chilli by Indian celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor is a popular casual dining restaurant chain. It has outlets in India, Nepal, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan and UAE. The Yellow Chilli has 4 outlets in UAE, and I visited their recently opened outlet in Burjuman Centre.
Situated at the Ground Level of Burjuman Centre close to Carrefour Supermarket, The Yellow Chilli is a convenient location for all shoppers and diners. I visited them for dinner on a weekday and the restaurant was full and super busy.
It is a mid sized restaurant with bright and vibrant decor. Loved the quirky and colorful posters on the wall. The restaurant has a cosy and comfy setting.
The Yellow Chilli takes you on a culinary journey across North India, the food that Sanjeev Kapoor has grown with. You can expect a wide array of dishes curated by the talented chef- traditional and authentic Indian food with a contemporary touch.
As it was my first time at The Yellow Chilli, I asked the staff for suggestions. As both my husband and I are vegetarians, we ordered only the vegetarian food.
First, we started off with drinks. We were recommended to try Santra Tantra and Peru Pyala. Santra Tantra had a blend of fresh orange juice, cumin powder and orange chunks. It was good, but I didn’t like the whole fennel seeds that was mixed with the drink. The Peru Pyala was just amazing, it had a mix of guava juice, lime juice and mint leaves. It was presented in a cocktail glass that was rimmed with Chilli powder.
Before our starters arrived, we were offered complimentary Poppadums and condiments like pickle and chutneys.
Starters
We ordered Mix Grill Veg as our starter. It was an assorted platter of juicy tandoori kebabs.
- Shabnam Ke Moti-Mushroom caps overflowing with cheese and cooked to a delicious golden hue in the traditional oven.
- Channa Jor Garam Tikki- Potato patty coated with crunchy chickpea flakes.
- Paneer Tikka- We sampled 2 kinds of paneer tikka, one of them was the regular paneer tikka and the other one was the mint, coriander based green colored paneer tikka. Both of them were soft, succulent and tasty.
- Aloo Nazakat- Scooped potatoes stuffed with sweet corn, nuts and served with crisp potato wafers.
Main Course
Lalla Mussa Dal is their signature dal, it is a blend of black and green lentils with loads of butter and cream. It was fantastic.
Shaam Savera is their signature creation. It had spinach koftas filled with creamy cottage cheese, served on a velvety tomato butter gravy. It is an excellent dish and a definite must-try.
We were served Lasooni Naan to go with our curries.
Dessert
Zauk E Shahi is a dessert lover’s delight. This gorgeous looking dessert was packed with great taste and flavor. Served in a large cocktail glass, it had mini Gulab Jamun with Rabdi and crispy sweetened bread and was garnished with bits of pistachios and thinly sliced strawberries. It can be easily shared between two people.
We had a wonderful dining experience. The Yellow Chilli offers delicious and high quality food at affordable prices.
