Winter season calls for comforting winter food to warm you up on cold days and nights. And some of the Indian seasonal winter dishes are my favorites and I wait for it all-year long.
Recently the Bollywood themed Indian restaurant Bol Gappa launched a limited-time winter menu and we visited them to try the winter time specialities from different regions of India.
Located in Karama, Bol Gappa is a vibrant, cosy and cheerful restaurant with Bollywood-themed interiors. It is an inviting space packed with Bollywood related paraphernalia and Bollywood music playing in the background.
Their menu is vast and varied with great options. They also deliver and offer catering services to all kinds of events. As we visited them to try the winter menu, we didn’t try anything from their a la carte menu except for drinks.
We started off with two of their refreshing mocktails- Raspberry Lemonade Fizz and Watermelon Fresca.
First dish to arrive was Club Kachori. It is a famous weekend breakfast dish from city of Kolkata from the state of West Bengal in eastern India. The bite-sized puri with aloo sabzi was heaven on a plate.
Next we had Yam Chaat served with green chutney. It was a simple dish with amazing flavor. Traditional and rustic dish Litti Chokha from the northern state of Bihar was delicious. It was healthy yet very tasty.
One of my all-time favorite Indian dish is Makki Ki Roti and Sarson Ka Saag from the state of Punjab. And I absolutely loved the authentic taste and flavor of this dish at Bol Gappa. It was served with chaas, jaggery, onion, chilies and lemon on the side.
The last dish that we tried was Undhiyu platter consisting of undhiyu, methi thepla and chaas. Undhiyu is a traditional vegetable dish cooked in earthen pot and it is a delicacy from the western state of Gujarat. Kudos to the chef for the perfect execution of this dish.
Our winter menu experience at Bol Gappa was outstanding. We savoured each and every dish. Though the dishes were from different regions or states, they were done to perfection. And the presentation was on point. The service was flawless. Bol Gappa’s winter menu is worth trying!
