Our Saturday lunch was at a refreshingly different place. For the very first time we tried the flavorful West African cuisine at the newly opened The Gbemi’s Kitchen. This concept is the brainchild of Gbemi Giwa, Nigerian blogger, dancer and restauranteur.
The Gbemi’s Kitchen is a family run restaurant celebrating the cuisines of West Africa. You can expect traditional West African dishes with a healthy and global twist.
With the motto- “Sharing the spirit of Africa one bite at a time”, The Gbemi’s Kitchen truly offers a little slice of Africa right here in Dubai.
Located in Cluster R of Jumeirah Lake Towers, TGK is a small, homey and cosy restaurant with simple yet colorful interiors. Loved the vibrant murals, African-inspired artifacts and energetic African music playing in the music system.

As a vegetarian and a health-conscious foodie, I was not disappointed with their vegetarian/vegan options. We started with an organic Ginger Shot to drink.
Their menu is simple and easy to order. The Jollof Hummus that we ordered as a starter was amazing. It had velvety hummus infused with Jollof sauce and served with crispy pita bread.
Next we had the Plantain Avocado Salad. It had a great mix of ingredients like grilled plantain, avocado, spicy chickpeas, sweet corn, tomato, cucumber, red onions and lettuce with a dash of lime and served with cilantro dressing. A nutritious yet tasty salad.

For our main course, we tried two different bowls- Wrestlers Choice and Shaku Shaku Bowl. Both the bowls were deliciously different and packed with rich flavor. While I liked the spicy and delicious Wrestlers choice that consisted of jerk mushrooms, Jollof rice with mango slaw, Amaranth smashed avocado, grilled plantain, salad mix and jerk sauce.
The Hubs loved the Shaku Shaku Bowl and it had super delicious cauliflower rice, spicy chickpeas, plantain, shredded kale, pomegranate, avocado and carrots served with lemon olive and ginger.
Both our bowls were so nourishing, satisfying and filling that we didn’t have any room for dessert.
Our overall experience at The Gbemi’s Kitchen was great. We enjoyed the food, the atmosphere, the music and the hospitality.
