My favorite district in Dubai for my coffee fix is Jumeirah and often you will find me in a speciality coffee shop working on my laptop with endless cups of coffee. Yesterday I hit up Jumeirah to catch up with a friend over some food and coffee at Chemex Lab.
The newly opened Chemex Lab is a speciality coffee shop that offers premium coffee. They use coffee beans from Underdog Roasters, Greece. The best part of Chemex Lab is that they’re not only a speciality coffee hub but they also serve real food.
They’ve an all-day-breakfast menu as well as the newly launched lunch menu along with freshly squeezed juices and homemade desserts.

The interiors of Chemex Lab is basic and minimalistic. It has a cosy atmosphere with a small library and board games. So while you are sipping your coffee you can read a book or play a board game. It is a perfect spot to work on your laptop.
We didn’t order much. But first let us talk about the staff. Surprisingly the staff didn’t have any knowledge about coffee or the food menu and the service was sloppy.

I started with their healthy yet tasty Red Charge a ginger, lime, beetroot, carrot and celery based drink. It was refreshing and nourishing.
To eat we ordered two dishes from their menu. The first dish Smashed Avocado & Tabbouleh with goat chèvre feta, cress and citrus topped with poached eggs on dark rye bread was good but a bit salty.
Next we tried their Vegan Fish ‘n’ Chips. The fish was substituted with battered eggplant fillet and served along with chunky fries, mushy green peas and tartare sauce. It was okay but too oily.

From their dessert display, we ordered a Pumpkin Cake Slice and Coffee Cheesecake. The pumpkin cake slice wasn’t great but the coffee cheesecake was fantastic. They’ve a good variety of milk cakes, but as we are not big fans of milk cakes, we didn’t order it.
Ended our afternoon with a cup of perfectly brewed Cortado Coffee.
Our overall experience was okay. Definitely the service needs to be improved.
