The beautiful district of Jumeirah in Dubai is home to a number of amazing restaurants and cafes, it is also my favorite district in Dubai. Nestled in one of the bylanes in Jumeirah is Old Castello Restaurant & Cafe.
This restaurant and cafe which is one of the popular Shisha joints in the city has been around for more than a decade. Old Castello was renovated and refurbished recently. It has a new chef Dhan Singh and a new menu too.
We visited Old Castello for dinner and tried their creative drinks and elaborate food menu. The Arabian-inspired interiors of the venue looks nice. The indoor dining area is spacious and has numerous plasma televisions, it is a great place to watch live sports. They also have an outdoor seating area.
Once we were seated, we were offered complimentary amuse bouche- Cheese Croquettes. For drinks we ordered mocktails- Passion Fruit Mojito and Pan Pasand, both the drinks were good but they were on the sweeter side.
Their menu features Arabic, Italian and Indian cuisines, with a good variety for meat and seafood eaters. The vegetarians have limited options. Being vegetarians we tried veg dishes.
Appetizers
We started off with assorted Cold Mezze platter that consisted of hummus, mutabal, hummus Beiruty, fattoush and tabouleh. The delicious and authentic cold mezze dishes were served with freshly baked Arabic bread.
Next we tried the delectable Beetroot Ki Chaat and utterly delightful Stuffed Mushroom. After that we moved on to the creatively crafted Suneheri Paneer Tikka that was wrapped in katafi. Mock Meat Kebab in skewers was one of the standout appetizers that we were tried in Old Castello. It was soft , succulent and juicy.
Mains
Dal Dairy Daily or the classic dal makhani had a great homemade flavor and taste. The Jaituni Paneer was amazing as it had paneer in tomato gravy with olives and bell peppers. We also ordered Palak Parmesan Kofta which was creamy, rich and delicious. Zaatar Garlic Naan went well with the curries.
The Wild Mushroom Pilaf made with soft and tender mushrooms was simple, light and fragrant.
Dessert
As we were stuffed after eating so much, we shared a small plate of Gulab Jamun with Rabdi. It was light and oh-so-scrumptious.
Our dining experience at Old Castello Restaurant & Cafe was fantastic. The food was outstanding and so was the creativity and plating. The service was excellent. Old Castello not only serves good Shisha, the food is on point too.
