Shahran- Hyderabadi Cuisine in Dubai

Shahran Fine Hyderabad Cuisine

Hyderabadi cuisine or Deccan cuisine originated from the city of Nizams, Hyderabad in India. The Hyderabadi recipes are spicy, aromatic and full of exquisite flavors. Hyderabadi Biryani is the most popular dish and it is distinctly different from all the other biryanis.

I’ve some of the best food memories of eating delectable dishes at my Hyderabadi friend’s house when I lived in India. Yesterday afternoon I was longing to eat Hyderabadi food and visited Shahran restaurant for lunch.

Located in Oud Metha in Dubai, Shahran offers authentic Hyderabadi food. They’ve an elaborate menu which features a variety of Hyderabadi dishes.

Hyderabad Cuisine

Here’s the concept of the restaurant according to the Shahran team:

Welcome to a royal dining experience. Discover the flavors of an ancient era that captures the spirit of an authentic Hyderabad cuisine. Taste an ancient recipe that combines secret ingredients patiently cooked to perfection. It’s a culinary discovery that reminds you of a noble era.

The interiors of the restaurant has a look of a Nawab’s dining room with a majestic chair placed in the middle of the venue. The regal decor with beautiful upholstery, elegant furniture and classy tableware gives it a classic and timeless vibe.

Lassi

I started my lunch with a tall glass of Lassi and a complimentary plate of Salad is offered to me. Hyderabadi cuisine is mostly meat and rice centric and the menu at Shahran does not offer too many vegetarian options. Being a vegetarian, I ordered only veg dishes.

Hyderabad Biryani

Starter

Pan seared Aloo Tikki was way too spicy for me though it was tasty and non greasy. It was served along with salad and mint chutney.

The delicately cooked Veg Seekh Kabab in fresh and fragrant spices was fantastic. Definitely worth ordering if you visit Shahran.

Main course

Subzi Makhani had a delicious blend of garden fresh veggies tempered in butter and cooked in a rich red sauce. It had a creamy texture and well-balanced flavor. I liked it.

To go with the curry, I ordered Hyderabadi Chappati and Paratha. Both the breads were freshly baked, soft and tasty.

Subzi Biryani was more like a veg pulao rather than veg biryani, so I was a bit disappointed. It came along with Raita and utterly delicious Mirch Ka Saalan.

Dessert

Their portion size is big and I was almost full, but I did try their Gulab Jamun which was not that great.

Overall, I enjoyed my lunch. If you’re in the Oud Metha neighborhood, then you can give Shahran restaurant a try. They do deliveries also.
