Few months ago, we had visited Hotel Cartagena for the grand opening, we really liked the venue and the concept. So we decided to have dinner last week and booked a table, though its been a few days since our dinner, we are still reminiscing about it.
Hotel Cartagena is set over two floors of JW Marriott Marquis in Business Bay, Dubai. The spacious and vibrant venue has tropical inspired colorful interiors which gives it a lively vibe. The view from the venue is spectacular.
It boasts of a carnival-like atmosphere with dancers in gorgeous feathered costumes and jewelry. There is never a dull moment in this energetic and happening venue.
After being seated in the non-smoking section of Hotel Cartagena, we were handed their impressive beverage list. Their beverage list consists of signature cocktails, classic cocktails, non alcoholic mocktails, wine and other spirits.
We ordered two of their cocktails- Concubina Del Capitan, a spiced rum based cocktail with ginger, honey, lime and raspberry which was light and refreshing. Blackberry Pepperita which had black pepper infused tequila, blackberries, agave and lime was the other cocktail we ordered. We loved the slightly spicy kick of black pepper. The taste, flavor and presentation of the drinks were excellent.
Now coming towards the food menu, we were happy to note that they offer great options to vegetarians. Being vegetarians, we only tried the veg dishes. The menu features a good variety of South American dishes as well as creative new dishes. Some of the food we tried were:
We started with Classic Guacamole & Sweet Corn Dip with crispy tortilla chips. The crispy chips dipped in delicious guacamole and creamy sweet corn dip was a great combination.
Baby Gem & Avocado & Avocado Salad was just amazing. We loved the double dose of avocado as it had grilled avocado as well as guacamole along with other veggies and greens.
Miso glazed Roasted Eggplant topped with sesame seeds had a nice smoky flavor and as a eggplant-lover, I relished this dish.
Mushroom & Cheese Empanadas was bursting with flavorsome mushrooms and cheese. They were salty, creamy and crispy, all in one bite.
Corn Chicharrones was served along with a dip. Tasty and tender corn with Machego cheese, smoked paprika and lime cream was amazing.
Mixed Mushrooms Maki roll with asparagus, avocado, wasabi and truffle cheese was utterly delightful and moreish.
We ordered two of their desserts. Très Léchés with passion fruit and coconut ice cream was not in their menu, but was suggested to us by their staff. So glad we tried their Très Lèches. It not only looked pretty, tasted great too.
Smoked Vanilla Cigar is their most popular dessert and we had to try it. Smoked vanilla ice cream and salted caramel was wrapped in Venezuelan chocolate and served on a bed of black chocolate ash. It looked like a real cigar and with a subtle smoky flavor, tasted incredibly good. A visit to Hotel Cartagena cannot be complete without trying their Smoked Vanilla Cigar.
We had a fabulous time at Hotel Cartagena and can’t wait to visit them again. Whether you want to have a relaxed meal or celebrate any special day or just want to chill with your friends- Hotel Cartagena is the place for you. And yes, it is a good venue to entertain your guests and I’m sure they’ll be impressed.
