Dubai is home to numerous Indian restaurants from many regions in India. Rajasthani cuisine is one of the popular cuisines in India that originates from the North Western state of Rajasthan in India. Dubai has few Rajasthani restaurants. Recently I came across a Rajasthani restaurant called Sagar Ratna and I found the menu interesting and visited them for dinner.
Sagar Ratna has two outlets in Dubai, and I visited their Oud Metha Road outlet which is housed in the ground floor of a residential building. When we visited them on a Thursday evening it was difficult to find parking and it took us more than 10 minutes to finally get the parking.
The decor of the restaurant is nothing great to write about. But it is a simple, plain and clean restaurant that offers good vegetarian food. Apart from Rajasthani cuisine, they also offer Jain, North Indian and South Indian cuisine.
All their chefs and staff are from Rajasthan, so you are ensured to have an authentic experience. Their menu offers a huge variety and their Thali seems to be very popular too.
To drink, we ordered saffron and cardamom infused yogurt drink-Kesar Mewa Lassi. It was a rich and indulgent drink that is good to quench the thirst.
Starters
Jodhpuri Mirchi Bada & Jodhpuri Pyaaz Kachori are two of the classic snacks from the city of Jodhpur in Rajasthan. They were served with two kinds of chutney. Both of the starters were extremely tasty and flavorful.
Mehrangarh Kebab Patter is their North Indian Tandoor and Tikka platter and it consisted of Jodhpuri Bharwaan Aloo, Tandoori Gobi, Hara Bhara Tikka, Seekh Kebab, Paneer Malai Tikka and Paneer Tikka Achari. Except the Jodhpuri Bharwaan Aloo, we didn’t like any of the kebabs. I think we should’ve sticked to the Rajasthani starters.
Main Course
Dal Makhani was bursting with homemade flavor. We liked it.
Jodhpuri Gatta Curry is a gram flour dumpling in a spicy yogurt curry. It is one of my favorite Rajasthani dishes and at Sagar Ratna it was cooked to perfection and had an authentic taste and flavor. This amazing dish is a must-try at the restaurant.
Dhungar Paneer Tikka Masala was another outstanding dish. It is their signature dish where they had incorporated dhungar method or charcoal smoking method. The smoky flavored paneer tikka masala was fantastic. We relished it.
We ordered Mixed Basket of assorted Indian bread. The rotis and parathas were freshly made and went well with our curries.
Dessert
Rabdi Ghevar not only looked pretty, tasted scrumptious too. It was the perfect way to end our delicious dinner at Sagar Ratna.
Overall, we enjoyed our dinner. We liked all their Rajasthani dishes. The service was great and the food was reasonably priced. They also do catering and home delivery.
