Tea Time at Chai Sai

Cafeteria in Karama, Dubai

The pocket friendly foodie district of Karama never ceases to amaze me. Recently, most of the people I know on Instagram were posting pictures of fusion Parathas and Desi tea. I couldn’t resist it and I had to visit this place- Chai Sai and find out, what the hype was all about.

Located in the crowded bylane of Sheikh Hamadan Colony in Karama, Chai Sai is a tiny little restaurant. It can probably seat 6-8 people. I would rather order from the restaurant than visit it, as the venue is too cramped and the seating is not comfortable. Anyway, they are more of a delivery concept.

Its a basic restaurant with minimalistic decor. Hear what Chai Sai have to say about themselves:

A humble Tea and Paratha lover wanted to change the way the world looks at simple desi food and Chai Sai was born. Located in the bylanes of Karama, this funky little place makes fresh food and brews, using high quality ingredients and age old family recipes to innovate Parathas and Chai that you would have never had before and will leave you wanting for more!

Some food facts from Chai Sai:

  • Everything is freshly made.
  • Do not use taste makers.
  • Do not use re-fried oil
  • Do not use soda in their food.
  • Use whole wheat dough.

The menu at Chai Sai is impressive. It offers vegetarian and egg based creative fast food. They offer a range of Parathas, Omelettes, Rolls, Vada Pav, Pakoras, hot and cold beverages.

Indian fusion food in Dubai
I started off with tea first. Tried their Adrak(ginger) tea and Masala tea. Liked the Adrak Chai the best, it was perfectly brewed and tasted great. I couldn’t try their popular Zank’s tea as it was not available on that day.

Their menu has a separate section for signature dishes and I ordered few dishes from there. I liked the fact that all the dishes were freshly made after I ordered.

Dabeli Paratha was my favorite dish and I would like to recommend it to everyone. It had a perfect blend of Dabeli masala and Paratha with crispy sev enhancing the taste of the dish.

Liked the Cheese and Jalapeño Paratha too. It gave a Mexican twist to Indian classic Paratha. It was served with yogurt and Chana.

Burger Cheese had two thick Parathas with veg patty, onions and cheese. It was good, but very heavy.

Dynamite Omelette was a spicy Omelette with chopped green chilies, red chili, Jalapeño, onions and masala. It was served with bread. If you like your Omelette spicy then Dynamite Omelette is for you.

Veg Szechwan Roll had veggies in spicy Szechwan sauce that was rolled inside the Paratha. I found it soggy and lacking in flavor and taste.

Ended my snack time on a sweet note with Mini Nutella Roll. Loved it! A must-try for all the Nutella lovers.

My overall experience was good. The food was amazing and the fusion worked well too. The pricing is very reasonable and affordable. I will be definitely ordering from Chai Sai.
