Last week when I was on a shopping spree in Dubai Festival City, I was hungry and was craving for some comfort food. So I decided to have a look at some of the new restaurants that have opened in the mall, that’s how I came across Tortilla. And decided to have a quick lunch and continue with my shopping.
Tortilla is situated in the Level 2 of Skywalk Food Court in Dubai Festival City. Tortilla is a London based casual restaurant that specializes in California-style Mexican food. Recently, they opened their first outlet in the Middle East in Dubai Festival City. They have over 30 restaurants in 14 cities across the UK.
How did Tortilla Start?
Tortilla was started by the husband and wife team of Brandon and Jen in 2007 in London. Having grown up in California, they were missing the Cali-style Mexican food in London and that’s how the idea for Tortilla restaurant started.
Hear their story in their own words:
London needed real burritos. California-style. With the highest quality meats, freshest produce, finest rice and beans and tastiest tortillas around. They recruited fellow burrito fanatics and launched the first Tortilla in Islington in 2007. The Tortilla family grew, and with it a singular fixation: build the perfect burrito. When we found out the best burritos in the world weren’t available in Dubai, we knew we needed to expand into the Middle East. And so here we are today. We’ll stop at nothing. Seriously.
My Story
Though Tortilla is located in the same level as the food court, they are a separate restaurant and have their own special corner. That’s the reason I decided to dine here, I hate to dine inside a food court as I find them chaotic.
Tortilla has a sunny California vibe to it. Loved the colorful decor and relaxed atmosphere.
Food
Expect fresh food that is made in their kitchen daily. Their menu is small and simple. You need to choose your meal first and then choose your filling and then add the sides of your choice to go with the meal.
I started my lunch with a refreshing glass of Non Alcoholic Frozen Lime Margarita before I ordered the food. They serve fresh juices, soft drinks and non alcoholic frozen margaritas.
For my meal I chose Nachos Queso, Quesadilla, Burrito and Très Tacos. As I am a vegetarian, I chose vegetarian filling and they customized the level of spice according to my specification. The sides like guacamole and salsa were well made and tasty. All the dishes that I tried were good, I especially liked the burrito and taco.
Their menu offers two desserts-Churros and Chocolate Quesadilla. Churros is one of my favorite desserts and I ordered Churros. It was served with chocolate and caramel sauce. The Churros was a bit of a let down as it was too thick and oily.
Tortilla is a good place to grab a quick bite and also for a leisurely meal with family or friends. Affordably priced good food, flawless service and welcoming atmosphere makes me want to go back again.
