3 Fils is a home grown concept offering modern Asian cuisine with a Japanese influence. It opened on the 24th of November 2016. I was invited for the preview of the restaurant before it opened on the 24th. I went there without any expectations and I came back pleasantly surprised.
Located in the stunning Jumeirah Fishing Harbour, 3 Fils is a small and cosy venue with a maximum seating capacity of 30 people. The decor is modern and minimalistic. It reminded me of the quaint little restaurants that I visited in Japan during my summer vacation.
I was very intrigued by the name of the restaurant and asked the staff about the same. 3 in the 3 Fils stands for 3 partners and one of them is Chef Akmal Anuar who hails from Singapore.
Uniqueness about 3 Fils is that, it is a casual fine dining restaurant with affordable pricing. You can expect creative, high quality food that is reasonably priced. To keep the menu fresh and innovative, they will keep changing the menu, every couple of months.
When I visited them before the opening, they didn’t have a printed menu as yet. Here’s my dining experience at 3 Fils:
We started off, with 2 mocktails. Pina, was a pineapple and pomegranate based mocktail with a hint of cinnamon and Forbidden Fruit was ginger ale based drink with seasonal berries. Both the drinks were refreshing and delicious.
Next, we were served a salad called Simple Salad and true to it’s name, it was a simple salad made with cucumber, lettuce, buckwheat and dressed in a rice vinegar and topped with white sesame seeds.
Beetroot Sushi was one of the most innovative and creative sushi that I’ve had off late. It had pickled beetroot with mango salsa, wasabi, mayonnaise and fresh coriander. This sushi was one of the favorites which stood out.
We ordered the perfectly done Triple Cooked Chips as our side dish. It was served with garlic mayo sauce and barbecue sauce.
Indomie Noodles, the very popular Indonesian instant noodles, topped with baby asparagus and spring onion was served as our main course. It is a simple dish, you can’t go wrong with it.
The best part of the dinner was the dessert. The restaurant is named 3 Fils, so we ensured that we would try 3 desserts and we did.
The first dessert was named The Tooth Fairy-It had saffron meringue, violet sour curd, blackberries and edible flowers. It was delicately sweet with subtle saffron flavor. This dessert is a definite must-try.
Second up was African Powerhouse- The chocolate used in the cake was made from cocoa beans from Ghana and the vanilla of the vanilla ice cream from Madagascar. This excellent dessert was truly a powerhouse in taste and flavor.
Lastly, we had “Tomato who wants to be a strawberry”. It was a fun dessert with an interesting story behind it. Well, I don’t want to give away the story, you’ve to visit 3 Fils and hear it from them.
At 3 Fils each and every dish has a story. For an eclectic dining experience, I most certainly recommend 3 Fils Restaurant at the Jumeirah Fishing Harbour.
