Last week I discovered a hidden gem in Dubai-Baker’s Kitchen, a unique spot where walk-in customers, coffee and cake addicts and gourmet food lovers can expect the unexpected with their chef’s fusion of German traditional cooking with international, Asian and Arabic influences.
Baker’s Kitchen is managed by the wonderful German duo of Sven Mostegl, a master baker and chef Heike Voigt.
This German restaurant and bakery serves a good selection of food, including breads, cakes, salads, sandwiches, all day breakfast, Asian fusion and wide range of beverages.
The best and unique thing about their menu is that it explains the nutritional value of each and every food item. And everything is made in-house, using fresh and organic ingredients.
Their bread selection is impressive, make sure to taste their sourdough bread, which they make using the traditional method, the way their grandparents made without using additives.
I along with few other bloggers were invited for the Special Personal Presentation of their handcrafted Christmas Creations. We also got a glimpse of their new menu for 2017.
My Experience
Reaching Baker’s Kitchen was easy as they are conveniently located near a metro station. In fact, they are just a few meters away from Dubai Internet City metro station.
The cafe and restaurant has a cosy and homey ambience. Each and every piece of the furniture and wall mounted frames has a personal touch to it. This family friendly destination is good for breakfast, lunch or dinner with family and friends.
We were offered homemade fruit infused drinks as refreshments. They were delicious, I tried the blackberry and apple ones.
Baker’s Kitchen makes cakes all year around. But Christmas is a special time of the year, as a German owned and managed bakery, you can expect traditional German cakes and cookies.
We sampled a selection of their Christmas treats. Liked the German cookies prepared by the duo. The gingerbread cookies were very different and delicious.
We were also offered few varieties of cakes like Gugelhupf, chocolate cake, King’s castle and more. It was so tasty and addictive that I over ate.
The star of the Christmas bakery was the famous German Christmas cake Stollen. It is a fruit bread covered in icing sugar. It was made with candied orange peel, raisins and spices like cardamom and cinnamon. The Stollen cake was excellent, the best you could get in Dubai. I don’t remember eating such a great Stollen in Dubai.
We were also served a non alcoholic mulled wine. From the new menu which will be available from January 2017, we were offered a salad with crab meat, salmon sushi and chicken sandwich. Being a vegetarian, I didn’t try it, but my friend did. She especially liked the crab meat salad and the sushi.
Baker’s Kitchen will offer a X’mas Afternoon Tea Special from 3pm to 6pm, Sunday-Thursday. It is an all you can eat offer that includes Christmas cakes, Pastries, coffee or hot chocolate with marshmallows for just AED 69 per person.
So glad that I discovered Baker’s Kitchen and I can’t wait to come back again with my family.
