Govinda’s Restaurant- Jumeirah

Govinda’s, the well known pure vegetarian Indian restaurant in Dubai has opened it’s second outlet in Jumeirah. I was invited to dine there recently. Being a huge fan of their pure vegetarian Thali at their Karama outlet, I was super thrilled to visit their Jumeirah outlet for the very first time.

Located in the uber cool locality of Jumeirah, Govinda’s offers two levels of dining space. The place is done up in light hues, bright table runners adds a touch of vibrancy to the restaurant. Comfortable seating area, beautiful paintings and pretty  tableware enhanced our dining experience.

Govinda's Restaurant
My friend and I decided to dine at the upper level of the restaurant. After seating ourselves near the window table, we were handed a menu. The menu is vast and elaborate. We asked the staff to recommend dishes for us, and we ordered as per their recommendation. Before I write about what we ordered, let me give you a brief history about Govinda’s.

About Govinda’s

Govinda’s is a pure vegetarian Indian restaurant, it is Vegan friendly and serves Healthy food. They also have an Oil-free menu, giving Indian cuisine a tasty yet healthy twist. If you have any special dietary requirements such as vegan, high protein, diabetic, healthy heart etc, Govinda’s has it covered.

At Govinda’s, each recipe is created with handpicked ingredients of the finest quality aimed at producing a vegetarian dish that is fulfilling and appealing at the same time. What you can expect at Govinda’s is food that is healthy and tasty. The kind of food that is good for the mind, body and soul.

Govinda’s is also affiliated with Tru Frut, an unique concept of fresh ice cream that is 100% natural and vegetarian with no added preservatives or artificial flavoring.

Our Story

That was the Govinda’s story, now let’s talk about our story. First, we ordered a round of drinks. Govinda’s drinks menu is impressive. They offer fresh juices, mocktails, buttermilk, lassi, Jal jeera, Thandai, coconut water, non alcoholic wines and soft drinks.

Tender coconut water
They have a  Sitafal Festival going on and from that menu, we ordered the Sitafal Coconut Breezer. Not only was this drink refreshing, it was super delicious too. Highly recommend this drink. It’s a mix of Sitafal juice with fresh coconut water and it was served inside a coconut.

Pani puri shooter
We started off with Pani Puri Shooter. It had the traditional Pani Puri shot as well as Guava juice shot. What you get is a burst of flavors in your mouth. Amazing way to start our lunch.

Paneer Lemon Tikka
Next, we ordered  Paneer Lemon Tikka from their Oil-free range. It had cottage cheese marinated in curd and lemon sauce. This starter was tangy, tasty and flavorful.

Though, we were tempted to have their legendary Thali, we ditched it, to try some more dishes from their oil-free range.

Main Course

Oil free food

Exotic Govinda’s Vegetable has a medley of fresh veggies and corn in a creamy gravy. This dish is from their oil-free range. Can’t tell you how delicious this curry was. Oil-free can not only be healthy, but delicious too.

Dal Panchratna is a mixed dal(lentils) with Indian spices and herbs. This is again from the oil-free range. The Dal Panchratna had a homemade taste and flavor.

Lacha Parantha is the multi layered Indian whole wheat bread. The Paranthas were served fresh, crisp and flaky. It went very well with the curries.

Mouth Melting Biryani
Mouth Melting Biryani  is one of their popular Mud Pot Biryani. When it comes to biryani, you are spoilt for choice at Govinda’s. Though we were tempted to order Quinoa Biryani, we couldn’t resist ordering the Mouth Melting Biryani. This biryani had a dumpling of paneer that could melt in the mouth. It had well balanced flavor and spices. A definite must-try, if you ask me.

Mix Vegetable Raita was served along with the biryani.

Desserts

Moong dal halwa

Dal Ka Halwa or the moong dal halwa is a popular dessert from the state of Rajasthan in India. This halwa at Govinda’s was rich, creamy and lip smackingly delicious.

Sitafal With  Rabdi was in their Sitafal Festival menu, this was the only dish we didn’t like. We felt that the combo of Sitafal and Rabdi didn’t work.

Govinda’s also offers an expansive Italian menu. Overall, we had a great dining experience. The food, the service and the ambience is good. The pricing is reasonable for the high quality food that is offered at Govinda’s. Have you tried the new outlet of Govinda’s? It is definitely worth visiting.
