Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

Gone Girl is one of those books that you will either love or hate. It is a thriller novel, written by Gillian Flynn in 2012. As soon as it was published, it made it to the New York Times  best seller list. Infact, it was also made into a movie in 2014.

This page turner will have you biting your nails to find out what happens next. It is spectacularly sneaky and cleverly plotted novel. Gone Girl will keep you engrossed from the first page till the last.

Gone Girl tells the story of Nick and Amy’s marriage. It begins with the disappearance of Amy on the day of her fifth wedding anniversary. Nick and Amy seem to have a perfect marriage or did they?

It is also a realistic take on marriage or long term relationship gone off the rails. Gone Girl is a dark, psychological thriller that is brilliantly written. It has more twists and turns than a super fast roller coaster ride.

Well, the ending is something that you wouldn’t have guessed. I was a bit disappointed by the ending. But nevertheless, loved the deliciously devious book.

Some of my favorite quotes from the book:

“Friends see most of each other’s flaws. Spouses see every awful last bit.”

“It’s humbling, to become the very thing you once mocked.”

“Tampon commercial, detergent commercial, maxi pad commercial, windex commercial-you’d think all women do is clean and bleed.”

“Sleep is like a cat: It only comes to you if you ignore it.”

“People love talking, and I have never been a huge talker. I carry on an inner monologue, but the words often don’t reach my lips.”

“We weren’t ourselves when we fell in love, and when we became ourselves-surprise!-we were poison. We complete each other in the nastiest, ugliest possible way.”
