My food journey in Dubai took me to Shahi Paratha Roll in International City yesterday. I very rarely venture to this part of town, but I was surprised to see many small restaurants in International City. Shahi Paratha Roll is located in Greece Cluster, International City.
Shahi Paratha Roll is a Pakistani street food concept specializing in BBQ Paratha Roll and Bun Kebab . It is a newly opened restaurant.
The restaurant is small with indoor and outdoor seating. The interiors of the restaurant is simple and elegant. The bright red seating area is comfortable and cosy. The atmosphere is cosy and homey. The service is quick and efficient.
Before I get to the food part, I would love to thank the owner and the staff for the extremely warm hospitality. They surely know how to welcome their guests.
The menu of Shahi Paratha Roll Restaurant is simple and small. We started off with drinks.
We had the Lemon Mint Soda– it was freshly made with lime juice, mint leaves and soda. It was very refreshing.
Their drinks menu also offers Coffee, tea, lemonade, lassi and soft drinks.
Shahi Paratha Roll has limited choice for vegetarians as it known for it’s meat based dishes. But I was really amazed by the vegetarian dishes that I tried.
We started off with Chatpata Thela or Chaat. We tried small portion of all the four chaats.
Pani Puri and Methi Puri was well made with right amount of spice. It was tasty.
Dahi Bhalla was perfectly made and tasted fantastic.
Chana Papri Chat was the only chaat that we didn’t like. I felt it lacked in taste and flavor.
I am taken by surprise here, I never thought a typical non vegetarian Pakistani restaurant could make good chaats. Shahi Paratha Roll did a good job.
Everything in their menu is made in-house, even the puris for their chaat. Quite impressive if you ask me.
When I was going through their menu, I came across Shahi Chutneys and I wanted to try them. Some of the chutneys go best with the meat. The owner got me a small portion of all the chutneys in a platter along with Fries.
There were 8 varieties of chutneys and each one of them was different and unique in their own way. We liked most of them. Here are some of our favorites: Golden Aloo Bukhara- it was a potato based sweet chutney. Pudina Raita- yogurt blended with green herbs and toasted cumin seeds. Lal Mirch Lehsan- fiery hot red chutney made with dry Kashmiri chilli pepper and garlic. Tomato Garlic Sauce- Mandi style tomato and garlic purée. Khati Imli- it is a tamarind based sweet and sour chutney. All their chutneys are made in their kitchen from the scratch. My suggestion is to try all their chutneys.
Next we tried Aloo Tikki Bun Kabab. It was extremely delicious. In the center of the bun there was a potato patty topped with dhania chutney and onion slices.
We tried two kinds of rolls-Aloo Bharta and Mixed Vegetable. The Aloo Bharta had mashed potatoes cooked with fried onions and chilli. The Mixed Vegetable Roll had a variety of veggies cooked with dry herbs and spices. The fillings were wrapped in Shahi Roti. The Shahi Roti was extremely soft and not rubbery. They make the Shahi Roti with special ingredients and special care. No wonder it tasted so good.
We even tried their Pasta. It was the regular kind that we get everywhere. It was Penne Pasta with creamy Alfredo sauce with spinach,cherry tomatoes and Parmesan cheese.
Their menu offers Chicken Wings, Fries, Salads, Chaats, Mixed Grills, Fried Chicken, Bun Kebabs , Sandwiches, Shahi Chutneys, BBQ Rolls, Shahi Rolls and platters like New York style Chicken & Rice, Pasta with Grilled Chicken and so on.
As for the dessert, we tried their Kheer. The Rice Kheer came in a Clay Pot. It was rich and creamy. I loved the fact that the Kheer came in an earthen pot as it enhanced the flavor of the Kheer.
Overall we had a nice experience. The food is good, service is great and the atmosphere is welcoming. The pricing is very reasonable and affordable. Everything is made fresh and in-house. They also offer free wifi. Shahi Paratha Roll is worth visiting if you are at this part of the city.
