Jumeriah Lake Towers or JLT is home to many small restaurants in Dubai. Go Gyroz is a welcome addition to the food scene in JLT. It is tucked away in the corner of Cluster D of JLT. Easy to locate Go Gyroz via GPS if you are not familiar with the JLT area.
On a Friday afternoon, my friend and I went over to Go Gyroz for a late lunch. Go Gyroz is a restaurant specializing in Gyro.(Greek equivalent of the Shawarma)
We immediately liked the bright and sparkling clean restaurant. Though the place is small, the space has been used wisely. The decor is simple and lovely. The blue and white combination adds elegance to the place. The seating is comfortable and the atmosphere is welcoming.
The menu is simple and straight to the point. Go Gyroz offers authentic Greek sandwiches with an international twist. They serve four best selling Gyro- The Babylonian Bite, The Spartan Spread, The Mayan Myth and The Ottoman Odyssey. These four Gyro are made using the bread and other selective ingredients from that certain country. For example The Babylonian Bite is served with Arabic bread with authentic Gyro meat and other ingredients like Tahini sauce and pickled vegetables.
There is also an option to build our own Gyro. Apart from Gyro they also offer salad, fries, hummus, Greek yogurt and three kinds of desserts.
Their drinks menu consists of soft drinks, fresh lemonade, Laban and assorted flavored teas. My friend had the Fresh Laban-Mint. It was fresh Laban laced with mint. It was refreshing. I totally recommend this amazing drink. I had the Mint Lemon Chiller- it is a mint flavored lemonade. I found it too sour to my liking.
Next we ordered the Gyro Plate with French Fries. It was a huge platter with freshly sliced veggies like tomatoes, cucumbers with lettuce, warm pita bread, hummus, Tzatziki and crispy fries. The portion size was big. We liked the fact that everything was freshly made. I loved the hummus and fries. Tzatziki should have been a bit thicker in consistency.
We also ordered Greek Yogurt-fresh Greek yogurt was topped with sun dried tomatoes, sliced olives and chopped herbs in olive oil. It was excellent.
It was time to tuck into some Gyro. My friend had The Mayan Myth and loved it. It had tortilla bread with ground guacamole, chipotle salsa mixed with jalapeño spread. She opted for chicken for the Gyro meat.
As for me I built my own Gyro. I had the only vegetarian option at Go Gyroz-Green Gyro. It had fried Falafel, with veggie toppings of my choice like lettuce, cucumber, red onion, tomato and pickle. I chose the Greek pita bread. It tasted ordinary.
As for the dessert, I shared a Oreo & Cheesecake with my friend. It had Oreo crumbs and layers of cream cheese topped with tiny pieces of Oreo cookies. I am not a big fan of Oreo, hence I didn’t like it much. But I think those Oreo lovers may like it.
To sum it up we had nice experience. The staff are courteous, the pricing is reasonable and the portion size is generous, the ambience is cosy and the food is fresh and tasty. All the ingredients are freshly made in-store.
