It’s only been two months since it opened and Prax’s is already creating a big buzz in the foodie circle. One cool winter evening I headed over to Jumeirah for a tasting session at Prax.
Prax is conveniently located on the Jumeriah beach road, quite close to Mercato Mall. It is a cute little restaurant offering Chinese and Thai food. It is a drive-thru restaurant. It thrives on take away/deliveries. The restaurant is small in size. It has both indoor and outdoor seating area.
Before I could even enter the restaurant I was fascinated with the unconventional color scheme and signboard from outside. The interiors of Prax’s is done up tastefully. The ambience is colorful and vibrant. Loved the fact that the restaurant was sparklingly clean.
Prax’s has an open kitchen concept. Who wouldn’t want to watch their food being cooked in front of them!
Prax’s is a welcome addition to recently growing wok concept in Dubai. Prax’s is quite similar to the European and American take out places offering Asian cuisine.
Young and dynamic Mr.Dhiraj is the brains behind Prax’s. I had a detailed conversation with him regarding the concept of the place. This passionate entrepreneur is opening another branch of Prax’s in Tecom soon.
Prax’s is built around the concept of customization, the menu allows us to put together ingredients and create our own unique combination. This can be done in 4 easy steps- choosing the base, protein, sauce and toppings
My friend Nisha was my dining partner at this tasting session. We started off with the popular Thai Tom Yum Soup. As we both are vegetarians, we were offered the vegetarian version with only mushrooms. The soup was aromatic, spicy and delicious. Perfect for the nippy weather.
We also had Papaya salad, Veg Har Gow and Vegetarian Springrolls. The Papaya salad was okay, it was not extraordinary. Veg Har Gow(Dimsum) and Springrolls were excellent. The portion size is small. But my friend and I are not big eaters, so we could easily share it between us.
Prax’s menu offers starters, salads, soups, mains and desserts. They also offer reasonably priced combo meals. Whether you’re a non vegetarian or a vegetarian, you have great options.
For the main course we went Freestyle that is we created our own combination. Nisha chose Jasmine Rice as the base, Red curry as the sauce, veggies like baby corn, carrots and bell peppers as the toppings and skipped the protein. It was outstanding. Next time I am going to go for it.
I chose Soba Noodles as the base, Chilli basil as the sauce, tofu for the protein with toppings like snow peas, baby corn and mixed bell peppers. It was good, but wish there were more noodles than the toppings and tofu. Chilli basil is Prax’s signature sauce. I loved it.
I have to mention about their packaging. It is of high quality and keeps the food warm up to 45 minutes. So you can expect hot and fresh food delivered to your door step.
We were offered Coconut and Ginger and Date and Caramel for dessert. Both of them very rich, creamy and delicious. We especially loved Coconut and Ginger. It was fantastic. A definite must-try.
We had a wonderful dining experience. The food, the service and the ambience is good. Pricing is reasonable. Definitely will come back again. Hot on taste, Big on flavor- that is Prax’s for you.
