Fuego – Contemporary Mexican Restaurant and bar at Souk Al Bahar

Last Saturday I happened to visit a Mexican restaurant and bar in Souk Al Bahar for dinner. The restaurant is named as Fuego, which means fire in Spanish.

I had visited Fuego for a quick lunch with a friend couple of years ago. That time it was new. We didn’t try any drinks. I thought I will come back again some other time and enjoy what Fuego has to offer. Phew, it took me two years to come back to Fuego and enjoy a relaxed dinner. I am so glad that I finally did.

Saturday early evening, hubby and myself visited Fuego Contemporary restaurant and bar for dinner. We were heartily welcomed and were given a table of our choice.

The restaurant is not huge in size, it is modestly sized. It is simple and elegant place. We found it charming and comfortable. The Latin music in the background added character to the place.

They also have a separate bar area. We really loved the bar area. It is attractive and done up very tastefully. If you are planning to just have drinks and some finger food, then head straight to the bar.

Fuego is popular for it’s cocktails and tequila based drinks. Hubby had a Corona beer and I had a classic Margarita. I love a good margarita at the end of a day. The margarita at Fuego had the perfect blend of tequila, triple sec and lemon juice shaken with ice. I totally recommend their margarita and would love to try the other varieties of Margarita as well.

We were served complimentary nachos with two kinds of salsa, one was the regular tomato salsa and the other one was spicy salsa. It was good. But we found the spicy salsa too spicy.

Hubby and me were overjoyed when we were given two menus. The first one was the regular menu and the other one was the vegetarian menu. I must tell you that being a vegetarian who tries all kinds of cuisine, it is very rare with the exception of Indian cuisine that a restaurant offers a separate vegetarian menu for it’s customers. So naturally we were overjoyed.

We had two starters. Our first starter was Guacamole on the spot. We were very happy to have freshly made guacamole near our table. The guacamole was a perfect blend of avacado, tomato, onion, coriander, lime juice and sea salt. It was made according to our specifications. It was perfect.

Our next starter was Nachos Fuego. It had Nachos at the bottom  and on top, it had cheese sauce, guacamole, jalapeño, sour cream, beans and pico de gallo. It was good.

We shared veggie burrito and green mole between us, as our main course.

Our burrito came with Mexican rice and beans. It was well made and not very heavy and between the two of us, we could easily finish it.

This was the first time ever that we tried this dish called green mole. It consists of green mole sauce, Mexican rice risotto style, green beans, cauliflower and broccoli. It is very different and very unlike anything we have tried before. It was excellent and I would recommend everyone to try this dish.

Additionally we were given three kinds of sauce to try. We liked the green tomato sauce and the sauce which contained nuts. The third one was very spicy for our tastebuds.

Tres Leches cake was the dessert that we shared.  It  is a sponge cake. The sponge cake was served with merengue, strawberry, marshmallows, chocolate cracks and coconut ice cream. It was heavenly and we finished it in minutes.

We had an amazing experience. We liked the different choice in the menu. The presentation, quality and taste of food at Fuego is impressive. The service is top notch. I would definitely recommend you all, to give it a try.

Disclaimer- I was invited to review the restaurant. But as always my opinion and reviews are honest and unbiased.
