New Gastropub Alert: The Black Lion- inspired by Iconic New York Pubs

The Black Lion is the latest addition to Dubai’s Gastropub scene. I was fortunate enough to get invited here. But as always my reviews are straight from the heart and unbiased.

The Black Lion is located at the classy and elegant H Hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road, Trade Centre Area, Dubai. The location is very easily accessible. It is open from 11:00am to 3:00am every day.

The Black Lion is a newly opened American Gastropub. It was opened in Mid-July. This newly opened dining hub adopts both an urban high top counter sports bar and U.S. style uptown diner vibe.

The ambience is lively, relaxed , modern and classy. I loved the New York inspired decor. The seating is comfortable, nice lightings, big windows and an amazing bar. The American music adds to the overall atmosphere of the place.

They have a wide range of beverages in their drinks menu. The cocktail list is interesting. They also have good selection of Wines, beers, whiskey and other alcoholic beverages. They also offer coffee and Tea as their hot beverage.

Overall a great beverage menu. I personally would love to try their interesting cocktails. We started off with a white wine from Catalonian region of Spain.

The food menu also offers lot of variety. They offer a variety of appetizers, soups, salads, sides like  French fries, chunky chips, Mac ‘N’ Cheese, roasted Zucchini etc. Sauces like the popular Blue cheese, garlic butter, bourbon cream  and green peppercorn. The Entrées are interesting too.The desserts list is limited, but very good.

The Black Lion also offers Business lunch set menu for a very reasonable price on weekdays. They also offer Orginal American Roast on Saturdays and Sundays. The Lock in menu which consists of Sandwiches, burgers and pizzas is served in the night.

We ordered Caesar Salad and Roast Beets & Goat Cheese salad and Chunky fries. The Caesar salad was ok. But the beet & goat cheese salad was awesome and certainly a must-try. The chunky fries were very tasty  and irresistible. We kept on having and couldn’t stop though our entrées had arrived.

The Black Lion is a place for meat lovers and they have ample choice. But vegetarians, don’t be disappointed. Though the choice is limited, but it is quite good. I am a vegetarian and I had an amazing dining experience.

We had Pearl Barley Risotto with roast Zucchini, okra and hazelnut and Braised Bean Casserole with bell pepper and wild rice as our entrée. It was awesome. We loved it.

It was time to try their dessert. We tried the chocolate Brownie with Cherry ice-cream and Deep filled apple pie with vanilla ice-cream. It was pure bliss. Their desserts are divine and not to be missed.

The service is efficient, quick and helpful. The staff is friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. The portion size is good. The pricing is on the expensive side. But then again, it is located in a 5 star hotel and the quality and the quantity of the food is good.

The Black Lion offers a great variety of tasty and delicious food, amazing array of drinks in an elegant and classy setting. The music is super. When I went there yesterday they were playing the rock classics.

The Black Lion is a perfect place to chill out from first thing in the morning into the early hours. I would love to recommend The Black Lion to everyone. We had a delightful experience and we will be back again.
