The only thing that gets me excited is traveling or trying a new cuisine. Exactly a week ago I was super excited as I was trying Ukrainian cuisine for the very first time and it didn’t disappoint me.
YOY is the first Ukrainian Restaurant in UAE that recently opened in The Pointe, Palm Jumeirah- Dubai. It serves traditional Ukrainian dishes with a modern flair.
YOY is a lovely fitout, the outdoor seating area offers the stunning view of Atlantis The Palm and Palm Jumeirah. The indoor restaurant area has Ukrainian-inspired interiors with wooden furniture and handmade clay crockery. The vibe inside the restaurant is warm and welcoming.
The venue features a semi-open kitchen, where you can see the chefs preparing dishes through fire cooking. In the center of the restaurant is a long communal table with mismatched chairs and that’s where we sat.
YOY specializes in dishes created by using fire cooking techniques, so most of the dishes are prepared by smoking, grilling and flame frying on the pich, a wood-burning stove that is used for cooking and warmth. The pich is considered the heart of traditional Ukrainian homes.
The restaurant is licensed and serves Ukrainian-inspired cocktails and mocktails using botanicals from Ukraine. We ordered their signature cocktails Grusha, Garbuz, Kyiv Nights and Vyshnivka.
The cocktails were refreshing and tasted great. Vyshnivka is a liqueur made with sour cherries, coffee and vodka, it kind of tasted like cherry brandy and we liked it.
YOY’s food menu also offers vegetarian and vegan options along with meat and seafood dishes. We tried the Bread Basket, Ukrainian Canapé, Brynza Cheese & Pine Cone, Great Pumpkin, Banosh and Brown Varenyky. The taste, the flavor and the presentation of all the dishes were amazing.
For dessert we had the Red Varenyky, a sweet cherry dumpling served with sour cream. A delicious dessert to finish off an incredible meal.
YOY means wow in Ukrainian and at YOY Restaurant, we had a wow experience. It is a little slice of Ukraine in Dubai.
