Last few days I have been seeing posts about Maru Udon Restaurant all over my Instagram feed, as the venue is close to my home, I made an impromptu plan for dinner. And that’s the best impromptu plan I made this month.
Getting to the restaurant can be tricky, but if you know Business Bay well then it shouldn’t be a problem. Maru Udon is on the backside of the Majestic Tower and faces the water canal.
Maru Udon is a small and cosy restaurant with minimalistic and Japanese-inspired decor. It reminded me of the quaint little restaurants that I used to visit in Japan during my last summer holidays.
It also offers al fresco dining area and we sat outdoors as the weather is pleasant. Their menu is simple and straight to the point. As a vegetarian, I was happy to note that they’ve many vegan/vegetarian options.
Maru specializes in authentic Japanese udon, they make fresh udon every day with locally sourced ingredients. In fact I had the pleasure of watching the process of udon-making in the restaurant.
The restaurant offers free filtered water to all its guests, after we were served water, we ordered a pot of Matcha Tea.
As our sides or starters we had the crispy and comforting Eggplant and Kakiage Vegiball Tempura. For our main course we had Goma Sesame Udon and Hokkaido Curry Udon.
The Goma Sesame Udon was our favorite. Sesame sauce is a modern take on udon and it is a tasty dish with universal appeal. The soupy Hokkaido Curry Udon was rich in flavor. They’ve many and great udon options for everyone, we will visit again to try the other udon flavors.
We ended our dinner with light and refreshing Yuzu Sorbet and delicious Black Sesame Ice Cream.
We enjoyed our authentic Japanese dining experience at Maru Udon Restaurant, felt like we were in Japan. The food, the drinks, the service and the atmosphere was amazing.
