I was first introduced to Khameer almost 15 years ago when I landed in UAE. And ever since then it has been one of my favorite Emirati snack. The best way I like to eat Khameer is by dunking it in honey.
How the concept of Khameer & Dough was born?
Khameer & Dough is a homegrown concept started by Mansoor. His mother was the inspiration behind this concept. Mansoor’s mother used to delight her local community with delicious and freshly baked Khameer.
Mansoor decided to use his mother’s traditional recipe and gave it his own unique and contemporary touch. Thus the concept of Khameer & Dough was born.
Do you know what is Khameer?
Khameer is a round flatbread of humble Bedouin origin. It is a popular traditional Emirati staple that almost looks like a hybrid between a doughnut and a burger bun. It is commonly found on the dining table of Emirati families, and is often eaten plain or dipped in honey or cheese.
Khameer is made by mixing the dough with yeast, dry milk, sugar and salt. It can be either made plain or stuffed.
Khameer & Dough only uses the traditional method of cooking, but they offer interesting and appealing varieties of flavors. They offer both, sweet and savory filling.
I have already tried 3 of their sweet flavors like Oozing Nutella, Krazy K and Lotus Biscoff. They were amazing and this time I decided to order all their 7 savory flavors. Here is the list of the savory Khameer flavors that I tried:
- Cheesy Chips- Cream cheese with Oman chips. A must for all Oman chips fans.
- The Khamizza- Khameer and Pizza hybrid, filled with marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, black olives and green capsicum. This scrumptious Khamizza is my kids favorite.
- It’s Thyme- A simple Khameer filled with zaatar.
- The Batata- Its their best seller. The Batata has a filling of slow-cooked curried potato.
- Mishawa- Khameer topped with homemade Mishawa.
- Magnificent Duo- Khameer stuffed with melted Akkawi cheese and zaatar. This is my favorite, love the combo.
- The Foursome- Khameer filled with four kinds of cheese and topped with a touch of parsley. This was indulgent and heavy.
