Chawlas 2-Say Balle Balle To New Punjabi Restaurant In Town

Chawlas 2 the well known North Indian restaurant specializing in Punjabi cuisine recently opened it’s first branch in Dubai. Chawlas 2 has over 100 outlets across India, Australia, Canada and USA.

Chawlas 2 opened it’s first branch in Ludhiana, Punjab in 1960. Their Dubai branch is located at Jumeriah Lake Towers(JLT)

On a Thursday evening, my husband and I visited Chawlas 2 for dinner.

The restaurant is small in size with indoor and outdoor seating area. I liked the way they have made good use of  the space. The interiors are done up tastefully. The ambience is bright and beautiful. The seating is comfortable. My hubby and I found the restaurant Cosy and comfy.

We liked the fact that the owner of the restaurant Mr. Arvinder Gill was always around and taking full charge of the restaurant- from taking the phone calls for deliveries  to talking to each and every guest.

What can you expect from Chawlas 2?

Authentic and fresh Punjabi food. All their chefs are from Ludhiana and all their spices come from Ludhiana. Everything is made freshly in-store. They don’t use anything frozen. They serve food in it’s purest form, that is traditional. No fusion whatsoever. The food at Chawlas is authentic, traditional and totally frills free.

Their menu offers wide range of choices for both vegetarians and non vegetarians. We started off with a glass of  Lassi. It is a yogurt based drink. It was refreshing. But I am not a fan of Lassi as it is too thick. Apart from Lassi, they also serve soft drinks, Fresh lime soda and Green tea.

They offer Papad,Chutneys, Pickle and Salad as compliments. These condiments go well with the food.

We had Vegetable Platter for our appetizer. The Vegetable Platter consisted of  Vegetable Seekh Kebab, Stuffed Tandoori Aloo, Paneer Tikka, Tandoori Mushroom Tikka and Tandoori Salad. Each and everything was delicious. It was well cooked with right amount of spices.

We ordered Tomato Cream Paneer, Dal Makhani, Channa Masala, Mushroom Taka-Tak and Assorted Bread for main course.

Tomato Cream Paneer is made with Chawlas 2 ‘s secret recipe. It is very different from what we get in other Indian restaurants. It was excellent and I definitely recommend it.

Dal Makhani is a popular dish in North India, especially Punjab. At Chawlas 2 it was cooked to perfection with right amount of ingredients and spices. It has a smoky flavor. It was rich in taste and flavor.

Channa Masala is a simple dish made with chickpeas. What we liked about it was that, it had a homemade flavor. It was tasty and slightly spicy.

Mushroom Taka-Tak  is a spicy curry made with tomatoes, onions and mushrooms. It was tasty but too spicy for my taste buds. I am sure those who love spicy food will definitely like Mushroom Taka-Tak.

Assorted Bread  or Bread basket came with different types of Roti(Indian Bread). We had Garlic Naan, Lachha Paratha and Wheat Roomali Roti. It was good.

When it comes to desserts, they have a limited choice. We had the Moong Dal Halwa for dessert. The Moong Dal Halwa at Chawlas 2 is lip smackingly delicious. A must-try dessert at that restaurant. Don’t even think of leaving the place without ordering it. It was served piping hot. Perfect to have in the winters.

Overall we had a great experience. The food, the service and the ambience is good. The pricing is reasonable and affordable. Be ready to take a culinary journey to Punjab through Chawlas 2 and savour the rich flavors and aromatic spices of authentic and traditional Punjabi food. I can’t wait to come back again.

Chawlas 2 also takes delivery orders and catering.
