Summer of 2024 was the best of time of the year for my family and I as we traveled to three different continents. My first trip of summer started in June to Newcastle, North England.
After exploring Newcastle, we wanted to visit other cities and decided on city of York as it was 84 miles and approximately 1 hour 30 minutes drive from Newcastle.
We had an early breakfast in Newcastle and drove in our rental car to York. It is the county town of Yorkshire in North Yorkshire, England.

York is a cathedral city with Roman origins, sited in the confluence of the rivers Ouse and Foss. The City of York is a walled city and has many historic buildings and structures.
Perfectly placed halfway between London and Edinburgh and with the glorious Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors and Wolds right on the doorstep, York is unlike any other English city. There’s thirty world class museums, the best racecourse in the country and a thriving cultural scene.

The first thing we did after reaching York was walking on its 13th century defensive walls and taking in the bird’s eye view of the city. We passed by historic landmarks, gatehouses and gardens.
Our second fun stop was the fully guided, interactive tour of York’s Chocolate Story where we also got to indulge in the delicious treats.
Next we visited York Minister, York Castle Museum, Museum Gardens, National Railway Museum and walked around York’s most famous street Shambles and stopped by for lunch.

After lunch we went on a cruise from Ouse, York’s main river. We concluded our trip with an afternoon tea at one of the quaint cafes in the riverside.
Overall, it was a great trip and we got to squeeze in as much as possible within a day. I would recommend staying for a day or two in York as it is a lovely little city and worth spending more time.
