Lunch at Mercato Italian Cafe in DIFC

Mercato Italian Cafe DIFC

This weekend has been the most perfect and satisfying one in a long time. I also got to visit two amazing venues for lunch and one of them was an Italian Cafe and restaurant.

On Saturday we dropped by Mercato Italian Restaurant & Cafe in DIFC for lunch. Mercato has a limited lunch menu and all-day breakfast on weekends. Sunday-Thursday they are open from 7am-6pm and on Friday-Saturday they are open from 9pm-7pm.

Weekends there are no pizzas and many other dishes. We tried few dishes from their weekend menu as well as breakfast menu.

Mercato reminded me of the cosy, quirky and rustic Italian eateries that I visited during my holidays in Italy. The cafe is small with an indoor and outdoor seating area.

The decor is lovely, we liked the beautiful tiles, wonderfully crafted earthy furniture and small potted plants. This inviting space is a great venue for families, friends and colleagues for a good Italian meal or a sandwich or a cup of coffee.

Mercato also offers retail space for authentic Italian food products like olive oil, cheese, pasta, cured meat, Italian biscuits, bread and Italian pastries.

As the weather is amazing right now, we decided to have lunch outside. Chef Pina is the mastermind behind all their delicious dishes and we also chatted with her and asked her suggestion for vegetarian dishes.

We started off with water as we didn’t want to drink anything cold. The hearty and comforting Avocado Eggs Benedict from their breakfast menu was the first dish that we tried. It had toasted English muffins topped with avocado, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce.

Next we had the nutritious Kale Quinoa Salad dressed in lemon pesto which was a meal in itself. We enjoyed the Margarita Focaccia and it is served by the slice.

Spaghetti Pomodoro & Basilico was fresh and delicious. But the portion size was small.

We ended our lunch on a sweet note. Both the Strawberry Cake and Choco Chip Cookie were scrumptious. Along with the desserts we had freshly brewed Italian Coffee.

Our dining experience at Mercato was good. The food, the drinks and the ambience was fabulous. The portion size is a bit small and the prices are sensible.
