Sumo Sushi & Bento-Japanese Family Dining Restaurant

Last month I was invited to an event at Sumo Sushi & Bento-#ChopstickChallenge to unveil their new menu offering. This Chopstick Challenge was a challenge designed to test our culinary skills. We had to use a set of oversized chopsticks to sample their new speciality rolls. It was an evening filled with mouth watering revelries, cultural activities and fun.

As I had to go for another event, I was there for a short time. But went back again yesterday with my family. Here’s my experience of my visit to Sumo Sushi & Bento on both occasions.

Sumo Sushi & Bento is a restaurant offering Japanese cuisine in a family friendly atmosphere. They have been in Dubai for more than 15 years. They have many outlets all across UAE.

I visited their Town Centre outlet located at Jumeirah both the times. Situated at the ground level of Town Centre, Sumo Sushi & Bento is very spacious. The decor is minimalistic  and simple. It has comfortable seating and bright lighting.

My blogger friends and I had a good time trying the chopstick challenge and passing out with flying colors.

They have added new rolls in their menu-Yogan Roll,Emperor’s New Roll,Bangkok Roll,Anniversary Roll,Sweet Potato Crunch Roll, Hawaiian Roll,Crispy Cream Roll and Dragon Roll.

If you are a vegetarian like me, don’t worry! Sumo Sushi & Bento has a separate section for vegetarian food. As I only tried a veggie roll at the event. I will write the food review based on what my family and I ate yesterday.

We started off with drinks. They offer a variety of mocktails, lemonade, milkshakes, fresh juices, soft drinks and hot beverages. We had the Apple Breeze and Pomegranate Lemonade. Both the drinks were refreshing and tasty.

Here’s the list of what we ordered:

Veggie Roll was made with sweet sushi rice, cucumber, avocado and lettuce. The outer covering of rice had roasted white sesame seeds. It was fresh and delicious.

Forbidden Roll was absolutely fantastic. It had avocado, cucumber and asparagus rolled with black sushi rice and topped with a homemade kozo dressing.

Harumaki was a huge favorite with my kids. It had veggies fried in a light tempura batter and it was served with sweet chili dipping sauce.

Ginger Tofu is a must-try for all tofu fans. Lightly fried tofu was served in a a bed of ginger sauce.

Vegetarian Fried Rice is the regular kind of fried rice that you get everywhere. They can make it with or without egg.

Sumo Sushi & Bento has an elaborate menu and you will be spoilt for choice. They also have an option for veggie bento box. They have a separate section in their menu for kids.

A Japanese meal cannot be complete without having  Mochi for dessert. Our Mochi platter came in 4 assorted flavors. Each of them unique and delicious in their own way.

Overall, we had a great dining experience. Good food, decent pricing and comfy atmosphere. The only hitch was the service, which was extremely slow, though the place was not crowded.
