Picante – Authentic Portuguese Restaurant and Grill @ Four Points by Sheraton,Bur Dubai

I and few other bloggers were invited for  lunch at Picante, the Portuguese restaurant and grill at Four Points by Sheraton, Bur Dubai.

I have had Portuguese cuisine couple of times before  and was looking forward to visit Picante and enjoy the amazing cuisine of Portugal. We have very few restaurants which serves authentic Portuguese cuisine in Dubai.

It is easy to locate the restaurant. It is in the Mezzanine level of Four Points by Sheraton Bur Dubai on Khalid Bin Al Waleed road. They offer valet service so all the parking worries are taken care of.

As soon as I entered the restaurant, I noticed the rustic, homely and unpretentious ambience. Picante has simple and elegant wooden furniture, bright lighting, vibrant and colourful ceramic tiles. They have an open Kitchen. They also have an outdoor seating area near the pool. The interiors are a mix of modern and authentic Portuguese style.

Picante is a great place for lunch or dinner with family/friends/colleagues. This Taverna style restaurant is a perfect place for a relaxed meal.

We met Chef Gonçalo of Portugal, Picante’s Chef de Cuisine, who is very passionate about his cooking.

We were given a menu and they explained to us about the food we were to be served.

I know that the  Portuguese cuisine is seafood centric, but vegetarians like me will not be disappointed. They do offer limited but good vegetarian options. My reviews will always have vegetarian perspective.

We were served fresh juices and Red and White Sangria. I tried both the Red and White Sangria and liked it. They know to make a perfect Sangria.

We were served freshly made bread with butter. Condiments like pickled Olives and carrots was also served. I have to mention that they were amazing. We also got to try a refreshing shot of Gazpacho.

Next to arrive was pineapple and watermelon salad. It is a fresh and light salad with balsamic vinegar dressing. Yes, I liked the salad.

As I don’t eat meat and seafood, they made Bacalhau A Bras without Cod fish fillet. The version served for me had scrambled egg, parsley, crispy potatoes, Cherry tomatoes and black olives. I enjoyed this dish.

I was asked whether I would like to try the tomato rice  or the  mushroom rice for my main course. I opted for the mushroom rice. It was delicious. It was creamy rice cooked with oyster mushroom. Something similar to the Italian Rissoto. Next time when I visit them I would love to try the tomato rice.

The next dish was a surprise to us. It was not mentioned in the menu given to us. It was a Mille Feuille of vegetables. Layers of veggies like zucchini, celery, eggplant, purple cabbage and mashed potatoes was served on Waldorf salad. All of us loved this tasty and creative dish. I would love to recommend this dish to everyone, especially vegetarians.

The Four Points by Sheraton team surprised us by getting us all bloggers with our own platters of mini desserts with our Instagram handle names. We really appreciate this sweet gesture.

We were served three kinds of mini pastries for our dessert. The star among them was the Portuguese dessert  Pasteis de Nata. It is the traditional egg custard with coffee mousse. It was divine. I would have asked for more if I didn’t have to finish the other two desserts.

The service is good. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. The pricing is reasonable. The ambience is welcoming and rustic. It gives you a very Portuguese vibe. I felt like I was having a meal at a friend’s house in Portugal. I certainly recommend Picante at Four Points by Sheraton Bur Dubai. This restaurant will surprise you.
